Diagnosis: Bone Marrow Failure

On the 20th of November, 2017, 33 year old Anuj was diagnosed with Bone Marrow Failure. It was almost as if the ground beneath his wife’s feet slid away. They have a newborn son. Sandhya Chauhan, his wife, had to think quick and she did. With advice from her friends and relatives alike, she started a fundraiser on She garnered enough funds to take care of Anuj’s series of subsequent surgeries and finally, on the suggestion of the doctors, was able to fund a Haploidentical Bone Marrow Transplant.

The transplant was a success. Anuj was deemed fit to be taken back home. His blood platelet count was steadily improving. But sadly, on 20th January, 2019, he suddenly collapsed on the floor of his house and had to be rushed to the hospital. The doctors ran several tests on him and sadly, it was revealed that he had a septic shock from an infection in his body which had by now, resulted in multiple organs failure. The doctors were unable to figure out as to which organ should they prioritise on. Unfortunately, Mr. Anuj Kumar suffered a cardiac arrest from which he could not be revived and he passed away on 22nd January, 2019.

Mrs Sandhya Chauhan is undoubtedly grateful for all the contributions that could go towards her husband’s treatment. She thinks crowdfunding amounts to a huge part in giving someone an opportunity, to get back to their normal self through sustained treatment, and is convenient especially, for those who are helpless in raising funds for expensive treatments. She says; “because of the funds raised, Anuj could at least get a chance to fight and recover from his sickness”. Please pray for Anuj Kumar’s family in their time of grief.
