Miraculous Milestone - How Did The 5-Year-Old Brave A Rare Disorder?

Meet Rinki - A cheerful 5-year-old who likes to play with her brothers and sister. She says her favourite hobby is smiling.

However…

This smiling face you see before you today was once afflicted with a rare disease. A disease that many may not even know about.

“Will my baby ever be able to walk again?”, cried her mother as she watched her little angel in agony.

At the very birth of their little one, Rinki’s parents learned that their daughter was suffering from Spina Bifida. This rare congenital disorder affects the development of the spinal cord. Her parents were devastated to learn that their daughter would face a lifetime of physical and cognitive challenges.

The news did not stop the family from searching for answers. They knew that with proper medical treatment, Rinki could survive and, in fact, thrive.

"We did not care about society or how they perceived my daughter based on her condition. We just wanted our little one to be free from this pain.", said Rinki's father.

The innocent five-year-old suffered from a rare congenital condition that made it impossible for her to walk upright. Instead, she had to walk on all fours with the help of her hands and legs. Despite her condition, Rinki always kept a bright smile.

But the condition made her the target of much judgment from other children in her area. The little one was unaware of the reason behind the ridicule she was facing. She just wanted to walk again. 

More Hurdles

Coming from a small town in UP, Hathras, Rinki's family had relatively limited access to healthcare but was determined to save her daughter's life. Her father, who loved her dearly, was determined to do everything in his power to help her walk again.

They went above and beyond to ensure a better quality of life for their daughter and, eventually, found a way to treat Rinki.

"I am a farmer. There is only so much I could do to be able to afford my daughter's treatment.", 

the father expressed his concern.

The treatment involved a series of surgeries to treat the tumour and close the gap in her spine to ensure a healthy life for the little one. The cost for the procedure was ₹16 Lakh, but the family had already exhausted most of their savings. Despite the challenges, the family was determined to give their child the best chance at recovery.
