10-Year-Old Walks Again: A Tale Of Courage, Community and Crowdfunding

Meet Santosh, our happy-go-lucky girl with a bright future ahead of her. She loves learning and wants to become a teacher when she grows up. In 2022, her life took an unexpected turn when she got into an accident.

Santosh was stung by an insect, and it completely shattered her life. Who would've known that an insect bite could cause you to lose mobility? Due to this very insect bite, she suffered a broken femur bone, a damaged hip joint, and several other injuries. She lost her ability to walk and crawled to get around. It was a devastating blow to her quality of life and left Santosh and her family feeling hopeless.

Santosh and her family lived in a remote village in Uttar Pradesh, India. Her mother had passed away, so her brother and father looked after her. They were all she had, and they couldn't bear to see her suffer like this. The doctors suggested multiple surgeries, including total hip replacements, to recover — the cost of which came up to ₹10 Lakh. 

The situation was dire. Santosh's family did not even have the funds to make ends meet, much rather pay for her treatment. They were an impoverished family struggling to make ends meet with minimum-wage jobs. Santosh’s family tried everything in their power to raise funds, but they still couldn't manage to raise anywhere near the ₹10 Lakh required for the treatments.

But the family did not give up. They turned to the community for help. The hospital where Santosh was getting treated suggested that the family start a crowdfunding campaign to raise the necessary funds. This is when ImpactGuru came into the picture. Soon after, the family started a fundraiser on the crowdfunding platform.

People from all over India donated to her cause, and in no time, the family was able to raise ₹10,58,945 for Santosh's five surgeries together with ImpactGuru. Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors, Santosh was able to undergo five successful surgeries. Today, she can walk again. While she may need assistance, she's no longer confined to merely crawling around, which is a huge milestone.

After years of suffering, the family can finally sigh in relief. Without the kindness of these strangers, Santosh's future would have been uncertain. The love and support that poured in from all the ImpactGuru donors gave her hope and proved that miracles indeed happen!
