Have you ever wondered what Olympic medals are made of?
At Rio 2016, we cheered, as P V Sindhu and Sakshi Malik brought back a silver and a bronze. What we saw were the medals, what we didn't see was the years of hard work, a daily routine that doesn't leave much time to do anything that a normal 20-something would enjoy, the stubborn passion that makes them wake up at odd hours in the morning to train, sometimes despite proper infrastructure or equipment.
We didn't see PV Sindhu travel 56 kms to her training center each day. We didn't see Sakshi Malik give up her childhood to start training at the age of 12. We don't know that a young Dipa Karmakar - who missed the Bronze by just a little at Rio - practices for 8 hours each day despite of her training center in Tripura being flooded most of the time.
Our athletes deserve much more.
Winning a Gold is not an overnight achievement. Therefore, to make sure that our Olympians do well in Tokyo, we have to support them today!
EPIC Channel and Impact Guru have come together to back our Olympians in their quest to win a gold at Tokyo 2020.
EPIC Channel's new show, Umeed India, which airs every Thursday at 8 pm is hosted by Virender Sehwag, is unravelling the lives of Olympians who have begun their march towards victory. We believe that in order to support we should first KNOW our Olympians. But, we don't just want to acknowledge. We want to empower.
Which is why, we want to support them by raising funds for training costs, nutrition, supplies, infrastructure etc. to support 13 athletes in their Olympics journey to Tokyo in 2020.
You too can be a part of this journey!
Here's how you can empower our Olympians:
Contribute: Most athletes spend a lot of time looking for sponsors or exhaust their savings trying to bear the cost of training. We are fundraising for them so they can focus completely on their performance. Contribute to the general fund or to an athlete of your choice by clicking on 'Empower India'
Share the fundraiser: You can help these athletes get the support and acknowledgement of the nation by sharing their stories with your friends, family and other networks through Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp etc. Remember each share can bring the athlete a step closer to their goal.
Start a support campaign: Be a supporter yourself. Start a support campaign for any athlete of your choice and raise funds for them from your personal networks. These funds will be added to the overall fund for the athlete.
And we've finally figured it out.
It takes one true grit player and 1.3 billion supporters to bring back an Olympic medal.
Let's empower these 13 Olympians to win at Tokyo 2020!
