A mother’s perspective during her daughter’s medical recovery is not something I ever imagined I would have to share. Yet, in April 2024, our lives changed in a single moment.
Diksha, my 21-year-old daughter, was studying tirelessly for her MPSC exams. She had always been ambitious, balancing her books with her love for dance. Dance was more than a hobby for her. It was her joy, her identity. She often spoke about clearing her exams and then pursuing postgraduate studies in dance.

How an Accident Turned Our World Upside Down
We never imagined that a single accident would bring everything to a halt.
In April 2024, the call came suddenly. A road accident. Severe injuries. We rushed to the hospital, praying it wasn’t as bad as they said.
But when I saw her, I felt helpless in a way I never had before.
Her face was disfigured. Both her legs were fractured. Her hands were fractured, too. My once energetic daughter lay unconscious, surrounded by machines and doctors. I held her hand carefully, afraid to touch her broken body, whispering that she would be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself.
Painful Medical Procedures
The doctors told us she would need multiple surgeries. One became two. Two became five. Eventually, she underwent 12 surgeries.
Every surgery felt like a test of faith.
For 1.5 months, Diksha was bedridden. She couldn’t move without pain. The girl who once danced freely now struggled to even sit up. Watching your child suffer like that is a pain no parent can explain.
But alongside the emotional trauma came another harsh reality: the medical bills.
Managing Medical Expenses During Recovery
The expenses kept rising. Surgery after surgery, medications, hospital stays, everything added up. We felt helpless. We wanted to focus only on her recovery, but finances weighed heavily on our minds.
That’s when we decided to seek help.
We started a fundraising campaign on ImpactGuru, not knowing what to expect. Would people care?
Then something incredible happened.
The donations began to come in.
First, a few. Then more. Then dozens. When we saw that over ₹1 lakh had been raised, bringing tears of hope. Strangers were standing with us.
In total, more than 230 donors on ImpactGuru came forward. Nearly ₹3 lakh was raised to support her treatment. Each contribution felt like a hand holding ours in the darkest time of our lives.
Her recovery didn’t end with the surgeries. Weeks of physiotherapy followed, teaching her how to walk again, step by painful step. Still, with every surgery completed and every small improvement, hope returned in our hearts.
A Caregiver’s Gratitude
The day she managed to sit up on her own and tried to stand, even with support, my heart felt whole again. And the first time she smiled after weeks of pain, that smile healed me, too.
Today, Diksha is recovering. She is walking again. She talks about her exams. And sometimes, when she thinks no one is watching, she moves her hands gently, as if remembering her dance steps.
To the 230+ people who helped us, you did more than fund surgeries. You restored a young girl’s dreams. You gave a mother her hope back.
This journey changed me forever. It became my lived experience, a mother’s perspective during her daughter’s medical recovery that I will carry for the rest of my life.
It taught me something powerful: When tragedy strikes, humanity rises. And sometimes, the kindness of strangers becomes the reason your child gets a second chance at life.
