The next frontier for medical crowdfunding in India is not consumer-facing campaigns. It is infrastructure, built on a crowdfunding API in India that embeds fundraising directly into hospital admission workflows, NGO case management systems, and insurance claim processes. Crowdfunding-as-a-Service.

The Limitation of the Consumer Model
The traditional model for medical crowdfunding is consumer-initiated: a family creates a fundraiser, shares it, and raises money. This model works, and ImpactGuru has used it to help over one lakh patients. But it has a significant limitation: it depends on the family knowing that medical crowdfunding exists and having the capacity to initiate a campaign during a crisis.
Many families who could benefit from ImpactGuru never reach us. They are deep in a medical emergency, managing doctors and diagnoses and family logistics, and nobody around them knows to mention that a fundraiser is an option. By the time they discover crowdfunding, they have already sold assets, taken high-interest loans, or compromised on treatment.
The solution to this is not just better marketing, though that matters. The solution is embedding ImpactGuru’s fundraising capability directly into the institutions — hospitals, NGOs, insurance companies — that are already in contact with patients in need.
What Crowdfunding-as-a-Service (CaaS) Means
Crowdfunding-as-a-Service is the offering I have been building at ImpactGuru over the past two years. At its core, it means providing hospitals, NGOs, and other healthcare institutions with access to a crowdfunding API in India through ImpactGuru’s fundraising infrastructure, so they can initiate and manage fundraisers on behalf of patients as part of their own workflows.
Here is a concrete example of what this looks like in practice:
A hospital’s social worker identifies a patient who cannot afford the next cycle of chemotherapy. Instead of giving the patient a pamphlet about crowdfunding and hoping they figure it out, the social worker opens the hospital’s patient management system — which has ImpactGuru embedded via API — and creates a verified fundraiser for the patient in minutes, pre-populated with the patient’s diagnosis and treatment cost data already in the hospital’s system.
The fundraiser is live immediately, already verified by the hospital’s existing patient data, and sharing begins. The patient did not have to figure anything out. The institution they already trust initiated the process on their behalf.
The ImpactGuru API: What It Enables
Our crowdfunding API in India provides partner institutions with:
Campaign creation: Create verified fundraiser campaigns programmatically, with pre-populated patient data and medical documentation.
Verification fast-track: Campaigns created through verified partner institutions bypass the standard verification queue and go live immediately — because the institution’s existing patient verification serves as our authentication.
Fund disbursement: Configure automatic disbursement of raised funds to the hospital’s account, eliminating the need for patients to manage fund transfers during treatment.
Real-time reporting: Partners receive real-time campaign performance data — donations received, donor demographics, sharing activity — integrated directly into their own dashboards.
Donor communication: Automated donor communication flows can be customised with the partner institution’s branding and messaging.
Webhooks: Event-driven notifications allow partner systems to update patient records automatically when fundraising milestones are reached or funds are disbursed.
Hospital Partnerships: The Most Impactful CaaS Application
Among all potential CaaS partner types, hospital partnerships have the highest impact per deployment. Hospitals are in contact with every patient who needs medical crowdfunding. They have the patient’s medical data, treatment plan, and cost information already. They have existing relationships of trust with patients and families.
The challenge is hospital workflow integration. Hospital systems — from large corporate chains to government hospitals — use a variety of patient management software, EMR systems, and administrative workflows. Our crowdfunding API in India is designed to integrate with all of them, but each integration requires specific implementation work.
We have built a partnership programme that includes technical integration support, staff training, and ongoing support for hospital technology teams. For government hospital integrations, we work with state health departments directly.
Early hospital partnerships have produced striking results. Patients at partner hospitals are significantly more likely to start a fundraiser than patients who hear about ImpactGuru independently — because the offer comes at exactly the right moment, from a trusted institution, with the mechanics pre-handled.
NGO Partnerships: Scale and Reach
India’s NGO ecosystem — particularly organisations working in cancer care, rare diseases, and rural healthcare — represents another powerful CaaS distribution channel. Many NGOs work with patient populations that have high medical financing needs and limited digital fluency.
Through our NGO API integration, partner organisations can create and manage fundraisers for their beneficiaries at scale. The NGO’s existing case documentation serves as the basis for campaign verification. The NGO can monitor fundraising progress across its entire patient portfolio from a single dashboard.
This model allows NGOs to amplify their impact significantly without increasing their administrative burden. An NGO that previously helped patients navigate crowdfunding manually — a time-intensive, one-at-a-time process — can now do so systematically at scale.
The Technical Architecture of CaaS
Building a robust CaaS offering required significant architectural work on top of our existing platform:
• A multi-tenant API layer with partner-specific authentication, rate limiting, and audit logging
• A sandbox environment where partners can test integrations without affecting live campaigns
• Comprehensive API documentation and SDKs for common hospital EMR platforms
• A partner dashboard for monitoring API usage, campaign performance, and fund flows
• Compliance infrastructure for data sharing between partner systems and ImpactGuru, including appropriate consent management
The most technically challenging aspect of CaaS has been data security. Medical data shared through API integrations requires the same protection as data submitted directly to our platform. Building a security model that protects sensitive patient data across API boundaries, with appropriate access controls and audit trails, has required sustained engineering investment.
The Vision: Medical Crowdfunding as Embedded Healthcare Infrastructure
The long-term vision for ImpactGuru’s CaaS offering is that medical crowdfunding becomes embedded infrastructure within India’s healthcare system — as natural and automatic as the billing process or the insurance claim.
Every patient who cannot afford treatment should automatically be offered a verified fundraiser as part of the standard intake process. Every NGO case manager should have fundraising tools built into their workflow. Every insurance company should be able to initiate gap-funding campaigns for patients whose claims have been partially rejected.
This vision requires years of partnership development, technical integration, and institutional relationship building. It also requires changing the mindset within healthcare institutions about who is responsible for helping patients access financial support.
But the direction is clear. The consumer-initiated crowdfunding model was how medical crowdfunding began. The institution-embedded model is where it is going. ImpactGuru is building that future now.
