Hi, I am Vandana. My son Varun is a loving, kind, and bright young man whose life has suddenly taken a devastating turn. He has always been full of dreams, especially his little hobby of collecting currencies from different countries. But today, he lies in the ICU at Lilavati Hospital, Bandra West, fighting for his life.

Varun has been battling chronic kidney disease since 2015. Back then, I noticed signs on his face and body, swelling, pain, and weakness. Despite treatment, his condition worsened, and on 2nd August 2025, he had to be admitted to the hospital for haemodialysis.

Since then, our lives have been shattered. During dialysis, Varun suffered epileptic seizures, a hip fracture, and developed a severe lung infection that turned into pneumonia. His kidneys have failed, his liver is infected, and doctors had no choice but to place him on a ventilator to keep him alive. For eight long days, I sat by his side watching him motionless, he couldn’t speak, eat, or even open his eyes. No mother should ever witness such pain.

Right now, my son’s condition is critical. He is still on dialysis every alternate day, fighting kidney failure. The doctors are planning hip surgery, but that can only happen once the lung infection and pneumonia are under control. His body is slowly recovering, but the surgery is still pending. Until then, every day feels like a battle for his survival.

All Varun dreams of is to recover fully, to live a healthy life again, and continue his simple joy of collecting currencies from around the world. As his mother, I pray for that day when I can see him smile and walk again.  Yet, through it all, my brave Varun faces every hurdle with incredible strength.

नमस्कार, मी वंदना आहे. माझा मुलगा वरुण हा एक प्रेमळ, दयाळू आणि तेजस्वी तरुण आहे ज्याच्या आयुष्यात अचानक एक भयानक वळण आले आहे. तो नेहमीच स्वप्नांनी भरलेला असतो, विशेषतः वेगवेगळ्या देशांमधून चलने गोळा करण्याचा त्याचा छोटासा छंद. पण आज तो वांद्रे पश्चिम येथील लीलावती हॉस्पिटलमध्ये आयसीयूमध्ये आहे आणि त्याच्या आयुष्यासाठी लढत आहे.

वरुण २०१५ पासून दीर्घकालीन मूत्रपिंडाच्या आजाराशी झुंजत आहे. तेव्हा मला त्याच्या चेहऱ्यावर आणि शरीरावर सूज, वेदना आणि अशक्तपणाची लक्षणे दिसली. उपचार असूनही, त्याची प्रकृती आणखी बिकट झाली आणि २ ऑगस्ट २०२५ रोजी त्याला हेमोडायलिसिससाठी रुग्णालयात दाखल करावे लागले.

तेव्हापासून, आमचे आयुष्य उध्वस्त झाले आहे. डायलिसिस दरम्यान, वरुणला अपस्माराचे झटके आले, कंबर फ्रॅक्चर झाली आणि फुफ्फुसांचा गंभीर संसर्ग झाला जो न्यूमोनियामध्ये बदलला. त्याचे मूत्रपिंड निकामी झाले आहेत, त्याचे यकृत संक्रमित झाले आहे आणि त्याला जिवंत ठेवण्यासाठी डॉक्टरांकडे त्याला व्हेंटिलेटरवर ठेवण्याशिवाय पर्याय नव्हता. आठ दिवसांपर्यंत, मी त्याच्या बाजूला बसून त्याला हालचाल करत पाहत होतो, तो बोलू शकत नव्हता, खाऊ शकत नव्हता किंवा डोळेही उघडू शकत नव्हता. कोणत्याही आईला कधीही अशा वेदना सहन कराव्या लागू नयेत.

सध्या, माझ्या मुलाची प्रकृती गंभीर आहे. तो अजूनही दर दुसऱ्या दिवशी डायलिसिसवर आहे, मूत्रपिंड निकामी होण्याशी झुंजत आहे. डॉक्टर कंबरेची शस्त्रक्रिया करण्याची योजना आखत आहेत, परंतु फुफ्फुसांचा संसर्ग आणि न्यूमोनिया नियंत्रणात आल्यानंतरच ते शक्य आहे. त्याचे शरीर हळूहळू बरे होत आहे, परंतु शस्त्रक्रिया अद्याप प्रलंबित आहे. तोपर्यंत, प्रत्येक दिवस त्याच्या जगण्याच्या लढाईसारखा वाटतो.
