Currently: Shaheen is in the ICU as her health condition is critical. Her doctors are planning to put her on ventilator support if her health does not improve.
Shaheen, my loving mother, is only 53 years old but has been suffering for the past 3 years. I never imagined that she would have to deal with so much suffering. After facing a major heart attack, my mother faced severe breathlessness.
She had a cough that wouldn't disappear and struggled hard while I watched. It was nerve-wracking, I didn't know what to do to take her pain away.
As soon as we took my mother to the hospital, the doctors at Yashoda Hospitals, Hitec City in Hyderabad diagnosed her with Bronchial asthma and severe respiratory disease. They told us that a treatment plan would need to be devised immediately.
“Shaheen needs oxygen support and ICU stay, a mechanical ventilator for breathing as well”, the doctors explained to me while I held my mother’s hand.
I was scared but I knew that if my mother took care of me, I should now be strong enough for her too.
It broke my heart to read a report of everything that my mother was facing- “Acute exacerbation of Bronchial Asthma, Accelerated Hypertension (HTN), Refractory Bronchospasm, Acute Coronary Syndrome, Anxiety Disorder, Type II Respiratory Failure”, it said.
She faces nervousness and drowsiness as well. Now her doctors have stated that she should receive treatment for asthma and control her blood pressure and anxiety. All I know is that my mother wants more time with her family, she wants to cook but has not been able to for almost 8 months now.
Since the doctors told us there is a treatment plans he needs for the next 6 months, I am asking you to be there for my mother. What she needs to overcome severe respiratory disease is mechanical ventilator support, oxygen support and ICU stay.
The treatment comes at a hefty cost and we have already exhausted our savings, sought help from friends and family and even sold gold. As her son, I am the only earning member of the family and so far we have spent more than 25 lakh rupees but still need a few lakhs more.
