The 14th February 2026 was supposed to be a day that should have been filled with celebration. Instead, it became the most frightening day for my wife and I.
Our son was born at just 6.5 months of pregnancy. He weighed only 960 grams. When I first saw him in the NICU, he was so tiny, and tubes surrounded him. Machines breathed for him. Instead of holding my baby, I stood outside a glass window praying that he would survive.
Immediately after birth, he was placed on a ventilator. Those first four days felt like four lifetimes. When the ventilator was removed, we felt a small ray of hope. But our relief didn’t last long. On the sixth day, his breathing suddenly stopped for 15–20 minutes. Those minutes broke me. Doctors rushed in, cleared sputum from his throat, and somehow stabilised him. I have never felt fear like that before.
On the eighth day, doctors tried removing nasal oxygen support for observation. But due to respiratory instability, oxygen had to be resumed. My son is just one week old, yet he has already fought battles most of us never face in a lifetime.
He is currently admitted at Bapuji Child Health Institute, under constant monitoring and medication in the NICU.

We are a small family, my wife, my mother, and I. For the past eight months, I have had not been able to work. We have been surviving on savings. So far, we have already spent around ₹2 lakhs on treatment.
