What started as a personal journey by one Teach for India fellow to help 60 kids in his class has now transformed into an organization which directly works with over 1100 kids and hopes to completely transform their lives and make them ready for the real world.
Three individuals from different walks of life, varied experiences and diverse backgrounds ranging from IIM, The Young India Fellowship to the Teach for India Fellowship, came together to build and nurture a movement- The Apprentice Project.
The Apprentice project aims to help kids break out of the spiral of poverty by giving them the necessary life skills that will help them succeed in life.
The power of “choice” is generally undervalued. “Choice” gives individuals a voice, power to decide and in turn the capability to determine what she/he would like to do.
TAP gives kids the opportunity to choose. They are given the option to choose a co-curricular activity of their choice. Through the activity picked by the individual, TAP aims to build core life skills which enables these kids to be empowered individuals in society.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Children in low-income communities face the struggles of limited perspectives to envision their future, lack of motivation to push for a better tomorrow, and lack the skills to succeed in the current world. Hence they get stuck in the spiral of poverty.
We place highly skilled volunteers in under-resourced schools to enable the students to learn a skill under the four verticals of performance arts, visual arts, sports and technical arts.
In the 2017-2018 academic year, TAP has been running in 11 under-resourced schools in Pune working with 83 TAP facilitators impacting 1100 students.
