I often heard that one is fortunate to attend the Mahakumbh. It was something I longed to experience myself. So, in February, I planned a trip to witness the divine, to experience the unexperienced. I knew that life would change, but I didn’t expect the way it did.
My name is Sonali Sarda. 18th February, while returning home after attending the Mahakumbh, I met with a terrible accident. The impact caused a C5 spinal fracture, leaving me paralysed and unable to move.
As soon as the accident happened, I lost all movement. After an MRI scan in Nagpur and consultation with the doctor, we learned that I had suffered a severe spinal cord compression and damage to the cervical C5 vertebra. Surgery was urgently needed. A few days later, my husband had to shift me to Hyderabad, where I underwent surgery.
Doctors advised that I would need ongoing physiotherapy and intensive treatment at a rehabilitation centre. After around three months of fighting for my life, I hoped that the worst was over. But just a week after being discharged and returning home, I faced a new set of health issues and had to be readmitted to the rehabilitation centre.
Because of the accident, I had to leave my job. The mounting medical expenses forced my family to sell our village home, take out loans, and borrow money.
Now, I just want to fully recover. This accident has left me physically and mentally exhausted. With your support and donations, I can still hope for a complete recovery.
