My younger brother, Afreed has been a constant support since he was born 26 years ago. Good news came to our lives when he became a father only 9 months ago. He should be watching his baby take his first steps, hearing his laughter, and dreaming of a future together. Instead, he is fighting for his life in a hospital bed.
On 10th December 2025, our world shattered. Afreed was diagnosed with severe kidney failure, a fungal infection in the brain, and a blood infection, along with multiple complications. His condition turned critical very quickly. Doctors have told us that his recovery will take 40–45 days of continuous intensive care. But even then, there are no guarantees.
How can he heal?
Afreed needs dialysis on alternate days, receives high-dose antifungal injections to fight the infection in his brain, and powerful antibiotics to control the blood infection. He needs constant monitoring, repeated CT scans and MRIs, and ventilator support whenever his condition worsens.
As his elder brother, I stand by his bedside and watch the machines breathe for him. I look at his swollen hands and think of how they once held his newborn son. I watch him struggle with severe headaches, reduced vision, high creatine levels and even constant cold, coughs and fevers. It breaks my heart to see him fight when he should be at home with his little angel.
Our family is small and simple. My father runs a mobile shop, and I am a fresher in IT. We have spent ₹30 lakhs already, with help from friends, relatives, and colleagues but the treatment must continue. We now need lakhs more urgently to keep Afreed alive.
The doctors at Renova, Hyderabad have been clear: stopping treatment even briefly could cost him his life. He may also need surgeries like sinus surgery or a tracheostomy if his condition worsens.
