Red is the New Green

Story

Periods do not stop in a pandemic. Neither do we.

You can help us #PassOnThePad to make sure every girl and woman in Mumbai has access to a safe and healthy period.

What is #PassOnThePad?

#PassOnThePad is an effort organised by Red is the new Green (RING), an award winning Mumbai based organisation which has been working to reduce period poverty through advocacy and education. We aim to supply and support NGO partners on the field who are working with urban slum communities, guest workers and underserved areas with sanitary napkins during the lockdown. Since we began a month ago, we have distributed 239,132 pads across the city via these partners.

But,why do we need to #PassOnThePad?

1. Covid 19 disrupted the world. Supply chains got hit the hardest after humans.

When the nation-wise lockdown was imposed on 25th March, sanitary napkins were not included in the essentials list until the Addendum Order issued on 29th March. As a result, the supply chains were disrupted and sanitary napkin supply became scarce across the country.

2. Women’s health at risk during the pandemic. And the culprit is not the virus.

Sudden loss of income and restriction in movement resulted in women residing in urban slums to go back to using cloth pads or rags. If these pads are not washed and dried properly, they can result in severe reproductive tract infections. Susceptibility to cervical cancer is increased due to reproductive tract infections and UTIs. In a time when personal hygiene is of utmost importance, the need for hygienic means to manage periods is essential.

3. P for Period. P for Pandemic.

Public school girls had sanitary napkins in schools via government schemes and school donations pre-covid. Due to schools shutting down, these girls have no access to these products and also the availability of information to manage their periods and ask questions in a safe space is lost.

So, how can I  #PassOnThePad?

Your donation will help us fulfill the existing sanitary napkin demand we have received from NGO partners. No donation is too small and we would urge you to think about those girls, women, frontline essential staff and guest workers. These humans get their periods just like you, me and our sisters and mothers but lack of a safe period deprives them of a healthy life tomorrow post pandemic.

So, please make a donation to our campaign and share the link with your friends and family to help us spread the word !

Who is organising  #PassOnThePad?

For the last 4 years, Red is the new Green has been championing the menstrual movement by impacting over 100,000 girls and women in India via their unique awareness sessions and waste disposal solutions.

We are recognised by : Queen’s Young Leaders, Forbes 30 under 30, UNICEF Asia, Royal Commonwealth Society, BMC

As we have a strong grassroots NGO network, we are able to reach those girls and women who do not have access to a safe period.

Requirement for  #PassOnThePad?

We are raising Rs 20 lakh to serve 20,000 girls and women in need. At a cost of Rs 100 for each girl ( which includes 1 month supply of pads + transportation + safety gear for our volunteers risking their health to reach these areas) , you can help a girl and women have a safe and healthy period!
