The 19th of January 2026 was when tragedy struck my son’s life. A severe road accident as Pugazhenthi was riding his two-wheeler led to multiple injuries, facial fractures, brain injury, even hand and leg injuries. Since that day, our lives have not been the same.
Pugazhenthi is my eldest son, 23 years old, our family’s pride and backbone. He was the first graduate in our family, working as a clerk in a small finance company. Coming from a farming background, we were incredibly proud to see him chase dreams and a future but….
Today, that same young man, my firstborn son, lies in the MICU, in a semi-coma state, surrounded by machines instead of dreams.
What is the treatment required?
Doctors at Narayana Health City, Bengaluru, performed multiple life-saving surgeries, brain surgery, along with surgeries on his face, leg, and hand. Though the major surgeries are done, his battle is far from over.
He now needs prolonged hospitalisation and long-term neurocritical care to even have a chance at returning to normal life.
My wife and I are daily wage workers. My younger son works in a small company. To save Pugazhenthi, we took hand loans and jewel loans, borrowing everything we could. We have already spent more than 23 lakh rupees, and doctors estimate a few lakhs more will be needed.
