I have always believed in being self-reliant. As a single mother of three children, my world has always been surrounded by them, full of happiness and laughter. I was the sole earner in my family. From working in a pharmacy to reading tarot cards, I was pretty good at what I did. As they say, life is unpredictable, and nothing could have prepared me for the challenges that I faced ahead.
My name is Prabha Neelakant. I am 50 years old. In 2020, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and had to undergo plasma exchange therapy. Before I could recover from that one battle, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Chronic Liver Disease (CLD) in September 2025.
Now, constant vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain are part of my daily life. A recent scan, following my nephrologist’s advice, revealed liver failure. The doctors at St. John's Medical College Hospital, Bengaluru, have recommended both a kidney and a liver transplant.
After my kidney disease diagnosis in 2020, I had to quit my job due to my declining health. My only hope is to recover and watch my children grow independently and financially stable.
