Born prematurely at just 26 weeks and weighing a mere 470 grams, this tiny warrior of Sathiya is currently fighting for life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a hospital in Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu. The baby requires continuous ventilator support, intensive monitoring, and specialised nutrition to overcome the complications caused by extreme prematurity. Doctors have advised that he will need 3–4 months of NICU care to have a chance at survival and healthy development.
The journey to this world has already been filled with immense struggle. Sathiya has endured four previous pregnancy losses due to a severe medical condition. She suffers from Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome, along with chronic hypertension, kidney disease, and heart complications. Against all odds, she carried this pregnancy to 26 weeks — a true testament to her strength and resilience.
Because of his extreme prematurity, the baby faces multiple health challenges:
- Underdeveloped lungs, requiring ventilator support
- Inability to regulate body temperature
- Feeding intolerance
- Risk of infections
- Underdeveloped organs, especially the neurological and gastrointestinal systems
To give him a fighting chance, he is receiving mechanical ventilation, Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), antibiotics, steroids, thermal support, and close monitoring. Every day, the family prays for even a small sign of improvement.
The family’s financial situation adds to the burden. Initial medical expenses of ₹5 lakhs were partially covered by corporate insurance, but the prolonged NICU stay has required additional loans, donations, and out-of-pocket payments. Even with all resources exhausted, the family still needs an estimated ₹10–15 lakhs more for the next 3–4 months of life-saving treatment.
