A Parents’ Plea to Save Their 4-Year-Old Daughter, Nevanya
Our names are Ankita and Varun Gupta, and we are writing this with hearts full of hope and fear — hope that humanity will stand with us, and fear that time is slowly slipping away from our little daughter, Nevanya.
Nevanya is 4 years old. When she was born, everything seemed normal. Like every parent, we dreamed of watching her take her first steps, run, play, and live a joyful life. But as months passed, something felt wrong.
By the age of 13 months, Nevanya was still unable to stand on her own or start walking. We believed she was just a little late. With faith and patience, we waited. When she still didn’t improve, we began visiting hospitals and doctors. The journey was long, confusing, and emotionally exhausting.
Finally, after years of tests and uncertainty, our world collapsed when doctors diagnosed Nevanya with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) — a rare, progressive neuromuscular disorder that slowly weakens the body with time. Without proper treatment, it affects basic movements, breathing, and eventually life itself.
The hardest truth we learned was this:
👉 There is only one approved and effective treatment for a 4-year-old child like Nevanya — a one-time gene therapy called ITVISMA.
But the cost of this life-saving treatment is ₹17Crores (USD 1.85 million).
For a middle-class Indian family like ours, this amount is beyond imagination. Even if we sell everything we own — our home, savings, and belongings — we will not come anywhere close to this amount. As parents, it breaks us to admit that money is standing between our child and her life.
Every day, SMA silently weakens Nevanya’s muscles. Every day, we fear losing precious time. Every smile of hers reminds us of what we are fighting for.
Today, we are left with only one hope — humanity.
