It came as a shock to our family. Lakshay faced bouts of fevers, fatigue and lost almost 3kgs within a month. I never expected my 15-year-old to struggle at such a young age. When the doctors at BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital in Delhi said those words to us on the 30th of July 2025 after a bone marrow result stated, “aplastic anaemia,” I could not help but shed a tear.
What troubles my son Lakshay?
My son’s body is not producing enough red and white blood cells and has a low level of platelet count and haemoglobin.“His immunity is extremely low,” said his doctors.

What is the treatment required?
The doctors mentioned that my son needs continuous blood and platelet transfusions as well as a bone marrow transplant, prescribed medication and antibiotics to survive.
How it works:
A bone marrow transplant is the only curative treatment for severe aplastic anaemia (SAA), replacing the patient's unhealthy bone marrow with healthy stem cells from a donor. “The duration of treatment will be around 4 weeks, followed by post-treatment care for 1 year. It is urgent,” said his doctors.

As the only earning member in our family, I am trying my best to make ends meet for my son’s treatment.
From borrowing money from friends and family, seeking help from NGOs, temples, and schools to selling our gold, and spending around 3 lakh rupees and 5 lakh on insurance, it has been a tough time for our family to manage the costly treatment. Lakshay needs lakhs more to receive the life-saving treatment and live his dream of recovering and growing up to have a successful future.
