It’s tough to watch your child struggle to take their next breath. My daughter, Sakshi is just 23 but now she lies sedated on a ventilator with a tracheostomy tube around her, unable to speak or even move, facing extreme muscle weakness due to multiple surgeries. As her mother, all I can do is sit beside her bed, hold her hand, and pray that she opens her eyes again.
It began when a simple illness turned into something terrifying when her stomach ruptured. The first surgery failed, leading to infection spreading throughout her body. She went into septic shock, her lungs failed, and now she is battling ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) and multiple infections. Her body has been through several surgeries, multiple abscesses, a T-tube bile leak and she is so weak that even breathing on her own is hard.
Doctors have told us that shifting her to a higher-level ICU could increase her chances of survival. She needs mechanical ventilation, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and even broad antibiotics. But the cost of air ambulance and further treatment is far beyond measure. We have already spent from savings, and borrowed from wherever we could but we still need lakhs more to cover the cost of her treatment including ICU stay.
My daughter has dreams, hopes, and a life still waiting for her. All I want is to take her home alive, see her smile again, breathe with ease and live a normal life with us, her family.
