Meet Naresh Kumar Sharma, a 57-year-old man who has always put his family first. For years, he dedicated himself to his job at a private company, making sure his loved ones had everything they needed.
Three months ago, Naresh’s world turned upside down when he was diagnosed with Gastroesophageal Junction (CA GEJ). Gastroesophageal Junction (CA GEJ) refers to adenocarcinoma, a form of cancer, that arises at the gastroesophageal junction, where the oesophagus (food pipe) connects to the stomach.
Since then, his health has rapidly declined. He suffers from significant weight loss, persistent vomiting, and can barely eat. The treatments, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and a regimen of oral medications, are aggressive and require urgent continuation, as advised by his doctors. But the disease is in its final stage, and his condition remains precarious.
The Sharma family consists of four members: Naresh, his wife, his son, and his daughter-in-law. Due to Naresh’s illness, he is unable to work, and currently, there are no earning members in the household. The family has been managing their day-to-day needs and medical expenses using their previous savings. So far, they have spent many lakhs, but the expenses are expected to rise further.
