My name is Asif Mallick, and my little boy, Musa, is bravely fighting a battle of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Until this nightmare struck, our family had never even heard of this cruel disease.
Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia is a vicious, fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. It starts in immature white blood cells called lymphoblasts, which multiply uncontrollably, crowding out healthy cells and destroying the body’s healthy cells.
Musa’s days are now filled with hospital visits, painful treatments, and the hope that he’ll see another healthier tomorrow. He needs urgent, complex medical care, consolidation, reinduction, cranial RT, and maintenance therapy to get rid of this.
For the past week, we’ve been running between hospitals and home, never knowing what news the next day will bring. Instead of playing football or going to school, Musa fights a severe battle for life.
As a delivery partner, I work tirelessly to provide for my family, but I am the only breadwinner. The costs of Musa’s treatment are staggering, far beyond what I could ever manage alone. Without immediate help, I fear my son won’t get the treatment he urgently needs.
Musa has big dreams in life. He wants to be a football player and a businessman when he grows up. He talks about his future with a spark in his eyes, even as he fights through pain and exhaustion.
