A professional photographer, a loving husband and father. He worked tirelessly for years to give us a stable life but ...15 years ago, our lives changed when my father, D G Nagaraja was diagnosed with GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor).
He has been the backbone of our family all his life. Since then, he has been fighting this disease bravely, taking lifelong medication and undergoing continuous treatment. Despite his illness, he continued working for as long as his body allowed, never once complaining.
His health has taken a severe turn. He was diagnosed with a liver abscess, causing severe stomach pain, high fever, and uncontrollable chills. Watching him suffer helplessly has been the most painful experience of my life.
The Treatment
He is currently undergoing treatment at home under medical supervision, receiving strong antibiotics. A stent has been placed, which will need removal after a month, followed by ongoing monitoring and medication.
In addition to this, my father must take Sunitinib tablets for life to control his GIST. Each tablet costs around ₹214, and the expense never ends.
The Hope Ahead
We belong to a simple middle-class family of three, my father, my mother, and me. So far, we have already spent nearly ₹7 lakhs on hospital bills, procedures, scans, and tests at Sanjeevini Heart and Multi-Speciality Hospital, Bengaluru.
My father is no longer able to work, and the entire household now depends on my single monthly salary. Managing daily expenses along with mounting medical costs has pushed us to the brink.
