I still remember that morning so clearly. Domnic, my 23-year-old brother, left the house smiling. He was nervous but excited about an interview. None of us imagined that by evening, instead of celebrating, we’d be in the corridors of HOSMAT Hospital, Kalyan Nagar.

On July 30th, Domnic met with a terrible accident. His head injury was so severe that the doctors had to rush him into emergency surgery called a right frontotemporoparietal (rFTP) craniotomy. They opened his skull to remove a clot and reduce swelling in his brain. He later had a tracheostomy, a tube in his neck to help him breathe.

Now Domnic lies in the ICU, on a ventilator, with only tiny movements and signs of irritation. I sit by his side and keep whispering his name, hoping he hears me. My father, who has always been the strongest man I know, breaks down every day. That pain of watching a child suffer is something I wish no parent ever feels.

Our family of 5 is doing everything possible. We’ve borrowed from friends, leaned on relatives, and even sold the gold jewellery my mother treasured for years. Together we’ve already spent around 10 lakhs on his treatment. The doctors say his recovery will take at least a year, with rehab and ongoing care, and another set of lakhs will be needed. For a family like ours, earning just enough to get by, this feels like an impossible mountain to climb.

But here’s the thing: I refuse to give up on my brother. He is only 23. He still has a whole life waiting for him outside that hospital bed. With the right treatment, he can come back to us.

So I’m reaching out, as a sister. Every rupee will go straight to Domnic’s treatment. “Hope is the only thing stronger than fear,” and right now, hope is all we have. Please help us keep it alive for him.

ಆ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ನನಗೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ನೆನಪಿದೆ. ನನ್ನ 23 ವರ್ಷದ ಸಹೋದರ ಡೊಮ್ನಿಕ್ ಮನೆಯಿಂದ ನಗುತ್ತಾ ಹೊರಟುಹೋದ. ಅವನು ಆತಂಕಕ್ಕೊಳಗಾಗಿದ್ದನು ಆದರೆ ಸಂದರ್ಶನದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಉತ್ಸುಕನಾಗಿದ್ದನು. ಸಂಜೆಯ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ನಾವು ಆಚರಿಸುವ ಬದಲು ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ್ ನಗರದ ಹೊಸ್ಮತ್ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯ ಕಾರಿಡಾರ್‌ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂದು ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರೂ ಊಹಿಸಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ಜುಲೈ 30 ರಂದು, ಡೊಮ್ನಿಕ್ ಒಂದು ಭೀಕರ ಅಪಘಾತವನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಿದನು. ಅವನ ತಲೆಗೆ ಗಾಯವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಕಾರಣ ವೈದ್ಯರು ಅವನನ್ನು ಬಲ ಫ್ರಂಟೋಟೆಂಪೊರೊಪರಿಯೆಟಲ್ (rFTP) ಕ್ರೇನಿಯೊಟಮಿ ಎಂಬ ತುರ್ತು ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗೆ ಒಳಪಡಿಸಬೇಕಾಯಿತು. ಅವನ ತಲೆಬುರುಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಪ್ಪುಗಟ್ಟುವಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಹಾಕಲು ಮತ್ತು ಊತವನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಅವರು ತಲೆಬುರುಡೆಯನ್ನು ತೆರೆದರು. ನಂತರ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಉಸಿರಾಡಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಲು ಟ್ರಾಕಿಯೊಸ್ಟೊಮಿ, ಕುತ್ತಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಟ್ಯೂಬ್ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು.
