Our priorities have always been making sure that our children receive their education and secure good futures. But, now those have changed. Every moment today is a fight for my son’s life. At 15, he struggles with cancer. School books have been replaced by medical reports and the life that he had is now halted.
My son lies weak on a hospital bed. He experiences fever, extreme tiredness, and swollen lymph nodes as he fights Early T-Cell Precursor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ETP-ALL), a rare and aggressive blood cancer.
We never imagined it would turn into months of chemotherapy, endless hospital corridors, and fear that keeps me awake every night. For the last 10 months, my son has endured intense chemotherapy that his small body has struggled to tolerate. Today, he cannot sit or walk for more than 10 minutes.
What is the treatment required?
Deon has undergone intense chemotherapy along with multiple medications. He is now scheduled to undergo radiotherapy along with chemotherapy this week.
Doctors at CMC Vellore have told us that a bone marrow transplant is inevitable. Time is not on our side. The only blessing in this storm is that his elder sister is a perfect stem cell match!
But, my son’s current health is weak and fragile. Deon has struggled to tolerate intense chemotherapy, which has resulted in severe weakness, making the upcoming treatment critical and time-sensitive.
