“When I first heard about Anjali’s accident, I rushed to the hospital - Cinema Medical Complex. My hands were trembling, and my heart was thumping 

The doctors didn’t let me see Anjali at first. Her parents were talking to the doctors. I overheard words. “Severe head injury,” “critical,” “not responding.”

I finally saw her through the ICU glass. 

The doctors explained everything to us. Anjali (24) had a major brain injury, they said her brain was swollen (oedema). There was bleeding inside her skull in multiple places. 

Her skull was fractured on both sides - the temporal and frontal bones. And worse, the injury had gone down to her neck - the C4 and C5 vertebrae. 

Her GCS score was 6 out of 15, which measures consciousness. 6 meant she wasn’t really there.

And then came the part that left me heartbroken: multiple bone fractures.

“मैं अपने फोन को स्क्रॉल कर रहा था तभी मुझे कॉल आया।

“राहुल, अंजलि का एक्सीडेंट हो गया है।”

उस एक वाक्य ने सब कुछ तोड़ दिया।

मैं बस अस्पताल, सिनेमा मेडिकल कॉम्प्लेक्स की ओर भागा। मेरे हाथ कांप रहे थे, मेरा दिल धड़क रहा था जैसे उसे कुछ पता हो जिसे मैं सुनना नहीं चाहता था।

डॉक्टरों ने हमें सब कुछ समझाया। अंजलि (24) को दिमाग में गंभीर चोट लगी थी, उन्होंने कहा कि उसका दिमाग सूज गया था (एडिमा)। उसकी खोपड़ी के अंदर कई जगहों पर खून बह रहा था।

उसकी खोपड़ी दोनों तरफ से टूटी हुई थी - टेम्पोरल और फ्रंटल हड्डियाँ। और इससे भी बदतर, चोट उसकी गर्दन तक पहुँच गई थी - C4 और C5 कशेरुक।

उसका GCS स्कोर 15 में से 6 था, जो चेतना को मापता है। 6 का मतलब था कि वह वास्तव में होश में नहीं थी।

और फिर वह हिस्सा आया जिसने मुझे दिल तोड़ दिया: कई हड्डियों का फ्रैक्चर।

अंजलि हर कमरे में सबसे ऊँची आवाज़ थी, वही जो चुटकुले सुनाती थी और मेरे मुश्किल समय में मुझे हँसाती थी।
