My father, Ravi Shankar, is a man who has taught me immense courage in times of fear. From being a small-business owner to taking care of us, he has been the sole earner of our family of 4 and someone whom we rely on.
But over the past 7 months, I have watched my father bear severe seizures, headaches and extreme forms of weakness. The doctors at Medanta–The Medicity, Gurugram diagnosed my father with a brain tumour on the 30th of May 2025. His battle is tough and every day without proper care is a risk we cannot take.
My father has had multiple episodes of seizures in his left hand and face and even left-hand weakness. He had to undergo immediate brain surgery as we await for his recovery. But now he lies in the ICU in a coma.
How is my father going to fight this? When will he open his eyes again? What does he need to recover? I have a million questions running in my mind.
“Radiation therapy and chemotherapy are the steps ahead,” said his doctors. I am holding onto hope that my father has the strength. So far, our family has spent more than 60 lakh rupees for his treatment, even selling land and taking loans and using up our savings is not enough. We need more support as my father needs lakhs more.
“To live a healthy life,” those were the words he said to me the last time I could speak to him. Now, I wait for him to open his eyes.
