My name is Saurabh Ranjan, and I am the husband of 35-year-old Aparajita Shekhar. She has been bravely fighting for her life since August 2025 after being diagnosed with Influenza B pneumonia, a severe lung infection that spreads to the lungs, filling them with fluid and pus.
Aparajita’s Critical Condition
Her health has been extremely critical:
- She was placed on ECMO support for 9 days, one of the most advanced life-saving measures available.
- Currently, she remains in the ICU on a ventilator, still fighting every single day.
- Although the influenza infection has subsided, secondary bacterial infections are spreading aggressively, making her recovery even more challenging.
When admitted, Aparajita suffered from high-grade fever, chills, and cough with expectoration and shortness of breath. She has Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), with dangerously low oxygen (hypoxia) and high carbon dioxide (hypercapnia) levels. Her chest X-ray revealed bilateral lung infiltrates, consistent with severe pneumonia leading to ARDS.
Despite oxygen support, her breathing worsened. She was intubated, sedated, and ventilated. When even that failed, doctors initiated VV ECMO (Veno-Venous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) on 26th August 2025 to support her failing lungs.
She is now on invasive ventilation and ECMO support, continuing her fight for life.
What Aparajita Needs Right Now
Aparajita needs ongoing intensive care, which involves advanced ventilation support, ECMO management, and powerful medications to fight secondary infections.
Her only wish is to recover and return home to her family. But the cost of her treatment is overwhelming, and the family cannot manage it alone.
