When Our Angel Stepped Into This World

My wife and I were on cloud nine when we first saw Yukti. I was in awe, as I had never held a baby in my hands before. Her little button-shaped eyes were observing the whole ward, from the doctor’s scrubs to the medical equipment.

But little did we know that our excitement was about to take a 360-degree turn. As we were dreaming of a bright future for Yukti, a diagnosis hit us like no other. My tiny baby was diagnosed with Diamond-Blackfan Anemia.

What is Diamond-Blackfan Anemia?

Diamond-Blackfan Anemia (DBA) is a rare blood disorder where the bone marrow, the soft tissue inside bones, doesn’t produce enough red blood cells. Red blood cells are crucial because they carry oxygen throughout the body. Without enough red blood cells, people with DBA can feel very tired, weak, and may look pale. DBA usually appears in babies or young children and can also cause physical problems like short stature or heart defects.

Sleepless Nights

Every night, thoughts of Yukti’s future keep me awake as I reminisce about the times when my wife and I were full of high spirits, planning the future ahead.

But here we are, circling the corridors of the hospital while holding on to hope.
