When my father passed away after battling cancer in 2021, my mother, Sadhana, became the pillar of strength who held our family together. Even while living with chronic kidney disease and undergoing dialysis three times every week. She always smiled at her grandchildren, always asked about them and somehow found the strength to keep going.
But, what began as a routine hospital admission soon turned into a nightmare for us. An infection spread around my mother’s left lung, forcing doctors to perform an open thoracic surgery. She spent days on a ventilator, fighting for every breath. Though she survived the surgery, her battle is far from over.
Today, my 71-year-old mother is bedridden. She cannot walk, speak, or even eat by herself. She depends on a feeding tube, BiPAP support every night, dialysis three times a week, IV antibiotics, physiotherapy, and 24-hour nursing care just to get through each day.
My mother has always been fiercely independent. Seeing her unable to do the simplest things breaks my heart. Our family has already spent more than ₹35 lakh, exhausting insurance, savings, and investments but we still need lakhs more to save my mother's life.
I just have one wish, one simple dream of seeing my mother sit up on her own, speak to us again, hold her grandchildren, and take a few steps without needing someone's support.
