My 3-year-old son Ojas is battling sickle cell disease, and at such a young age, he is already going through more pain than any child should. He has lost weight, his haemoglobin has dropped to 7.5, and his growth is also not happening properly. He is too young to understand why he has to keep visiting hospitals and go through painful procedures. He only looks at me with those innocent eyes, believing that his father will make everything better. 

I run a small medical shop, and whatever I earn has always been enough for our simple life. But Ojas's treatment has changed everything. We have already spent around ₹10–12 lakh on his treatment, and I don't know how much more I can manage on my own.

The doctors have now advised a Bone Marrow Transplant costing around ₹25 lakh. They have warned us that if he does not receive the transplant and proper treatment, his condition could become so serious that he may not survive beyond the age of 25. Hearing this as a father is terrifying.

मेरा 3साल का बेटा ओजस सिकल सेल बीमारी से लड़ रहा है। इतनी कम उम्र में ही उसे इतना दर्द सहना पड़ रहा है जितना किसी बच्चे को नहीं सहना चाहिए। उसका वज़न कम हो गया है, हीमोग्लोबिन गिरकर 7.5 हो गया है और उसकी ग्रोथ भी ठीक से नहीं हो रही है। वह अभी इतना छोटा है कि समझ नहीं पाता कि उसे बार-बार अस्पताल क्यों जाना पड़ता है और दर्दनाक इलाज से क्यों गुज़रना पड़ता है। वह बस अपनी मासूम आँखों से मुझे देखता है, इस भरोसे के साथ कि उसके पापा सब ठीक कर देंगे।

मैं एक छोटी सी मेडिकल शॉप चलाता हूँ और जो भी कमाता हूँ, वह हमारी सादी ज़िंदगी के लिए काफ़ी होता है। लेकिन ओजस के इलाज ने सब कुछ बदल दिया है। हम उसके इलाज पर पहले ही लगभग ₹10–12 लाख खर्च कर चुके हैं और मुझे नहीं पता कि मैं अकेले और कितना इंतज़ाम कर पाऊँगा।
