Love in the Shadow of Illness
My world changed forever in 2022. When we first got the news that Lakshay had blood cancer, our wedding plans seemed to dissolve into a sea of medical uncertainties. “Hope is the anchor of our soul,” I would tell myself during those nights at the hospital, holding his hand through chemotherapy.
We fought together, our love becoming our strongest weapon against the cancer named Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Miraculously, he recovered, and in October 2023, we celebrated our wedding.
What is Hodgkin’s Lymphoma?
Hodgkin's lymphoma is a type of cancer that starts in the lymphatic system, a part of the body's immune system. It occurs when certain white blood cells, called lymphocytes, increase extensively.
This cancer usually causes swelling in lymph nodes, often in the neck, armpits, or groin, and can lead to symptoms like fever, night sweats, weight loss, and fatigue. It's a rare cancer, and the exact cause isn't always known, but it is treatable, especially if caught early.
A Journey of Unexpected Challenges
2024, within weeks of our marriage, Lakshay lost his father and grandfather. Lakshay was just 3 when he lost his mother, and these repetitive losses were nothing short of cruel blows.

Yes, even talking about is scary. But yes. In early 2024, Lakshay’s cancer came back. It was perhaps the sorrow of seeing their beloved one’s life in peril that broke both Lakshay’s father's and grandfather’s hearts and led to their sudden demise.
“Strength doesn't come from what you can do, it comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn't,” became my silent mantra during his chemotherapy sessions.
Emotional Storms
Currently, Lakshay is at Ivy Hospital, Mohali where he is undergoing immunotherapy. As of now, Lakshay has undergone 6 cycles of immunotherapy. Doctors have planned for a bone marrow transplant and follow-up care, which requires lakhs of rupees.
Our journey is far from over. Each day is a battle, but our love, our hope, and our belief in each other continue to be our greatest strength.
