My niece Kavita is only 27, and honestly, we are still trying to understand how our lives changed so suddenly.
Kavita had gone to the hospital for foot and ankle surgery. That was it. We thought she would have the procedure, recover and come back home. On 11 July 2026, she was admitted to Das Hospital in Chembur. But after anaesthesia, something went terribly wrong. Her heart rate dropped, she suffered a cardiac arrest and had to be revived with CPR. We were terrified.
She was later shifted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute, where doctors told us that she had suffered an anoxic brain injury because of the cardiac arrest.
Since then, nothing has been normal for our family. Kavita is still not conscious. She is now off the ventilator, but she needs sedation because of recurring dystonic jerks.
Her kidneys and liver are stable, which gives us some hope, but she still needs close neurological care and rehabilitation for her brain injury.

Kavita completed her B.Sc. in IT and MBA and trained in Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Linux and Cyber & Hacking. She wants to build a career and become independent. Now, instead of planning her career, she is fighting to regain consciousness.
We have already done everything we can to keep her treatment going, but we cannot carry this burden alone. Kavita needs continued neurological treatment and rehabilitation, and we desperately need your help to continue it.
