“Every day we look at our baby and pray that she gets the chance to live a full life, to grow up, go to school, laugh with her brother, and live without pain.” -Nilesh, father.
At 7 months old, she should have been learning how to smile, giggle, and recognize our voices. Instead, our days are spent in hospitals, surrounded by machines, medicines, and constant fear for our little baby girl.
Three months ago, our world changed forever when doctors told us that our little girl is suffering from Primary Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare and life-threatening genetic immune disorder. In this disease, the body’s immune system becomes dangerously overactive and starts damaging the body’s own organs.
It all began with frequent fevers that refused to go away. Soon we were told that her hemoglobin and platelet levels were dangerously low. We never imagined something so serious could happen to a baby so small.
Doctors told us the harsh truth that without urgent treatment, this disease can become fatal.
Right now, our baby is surviving on powerful medicines. She takes three blood pressure tablets, steroids, and Jakavi tablets, and each Jakavi tablet costs around ₹2200. Even with these medications, this is only temporary support.
“A Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) is the only treatment that can save her life,” said her doctors.
The transplant will require 30–45 days in the hospital, followed by six months of intensive follow-ups and medicines. For a family like ours, this cost feels impossible to bear.
I run a small Bhel and Farsan snack shop, and I am the only earning member of our family. So far, we have already spent more than 5 lakh rupees on her treatment by exhausting our savings and borrowing from friends. But now, we have reached a point where we need a lot more support.
