Life was moving along like any other day until the unthinkable happened. In October 2022, Abdul Hamid, a 60-year-old, was diagnosed with Stage 1 superficial malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer that originates in the melanocytes.

At the time, a minor surgery was performed, and life slowly returned to normal. But just when his family thought the worst was over, the cancer returned, more aggressive than before.

In July 2023, the cancer relapsed in his right axillary lymph nodes, leading his condition to Stage 3. Abdul underwent a major surgery followed by an intensive immunotherapy trial. For over 1.5 years, he showed immense strength and courage, fighting silently while his family remained hopeful that this shall pass too.

Sadly, in July 2024, another relapse occurred, this time in his lungs. He underwent SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy), and thankfully, the lesion was cleared within 3 months.

But in January 2025, the family was hit by another devastating blow: the cancer had metastasised again, this time to his brain, spine, chest wall, and some lung nodes. This heartbreaking recurrence marked the failure of immunotherapy and left only two options:

• SBRT for local lesions
• Targeted therapy for systemic treatment

The Present Condition

Today, Abdul is fighting Stage 4 metastatic malignant melanoma with all his strength. He is undergoing targeted therapy, with medicines that cost nearly ₹3.4 lakhs per month. This treatment needs to be continued for at least 9 months, after which, if stable, it may be covered under a PAP (Patient Assistance Program). So far, it has helped control the spread of the cancer, but time is critical.

What He’s Going Through

Aside from the emotional pain, Abdul faces intense physical symptoms from treatment, including:

• High fever
• Acute diarrhea
• Body pain and weakness
• Fatigue
• Loss of appetite
• Headaches

Despite all of this, he continues to fight, driven by one dream:

“To recover from this disease, support my family again, and one day help others going through similar struggles.”
