“When you look at my brave little Pari, you wouldn’t realize she is living with a serious disorder. Looking at her, you can’t gage the tremendous pain she is in. Since her diagnosis in May 2019, Pari bears the pain of taking injections without a flinch. My daughter has borne all the trauma with not one complaint. But only a helpless mother can understand the child’s mental and physical pain behind all that silence.”
-Divya Kumari, Pari’s mother.
Meet 5-year-old Pari
Just like any other toddler, Pari has a whole life ahead of her. She never fell back in her aspirations either. My daughter loved dancing, was popular in her class and school and would speak about being a doctor at least two times a day. Then something was just not right. She frequently woke up during the night, refused to eat, drink and would feel fatigued in doing simple things like walking up the stairs. Soon, I noticed Pari develop rashes on her skin. Then one day, it felt as though all these symptoms had piled up and Pari developed a severe fever that did not reduce for days. I quickly realised something was terribly wrong with my daughter.
A devastating diagnosis that crippled my daughter’s life.
When Pari’s health didn’t improve, I took her to the doctor at Tara Hospital, Patna. As her symptoms worsened, the doctor ordered blood work immediately. The reports came out and it was revealed to us that Pari suffers from Aplastic Anaemia. After a few days, we were advised to take Pari to Tata Memorial Hospital, Kolkata, saying the hospital would have all the facilities my daughter needed for her recovery.
The doctor here conducted a biopsy and concurred with the diagnosis. I was informed that Pari’s condition meant the bone marrow was not producing platelets as well as red and white blood cells. I was informed that her disorder can only be cured with an urgent Bone Marrow Transplant.
Pari’s Bone Marrow transplant comes to Rs.35 lakh, and I am too poor to afford it.
“Nothing could ever prepare me for my daughter’s aplastic anaemia. Ever since then, she has needed blood transfusion every few days and I am left scared to my bones to watch her live each day in survival mode. My husband was a school teacher but he was forced to quit his job when he asked for leaves for Pari’s treatment. Even after taking loans from our friends and family, we are nowhere close to the amount Pari desperately needs for her transplant. The nurses at the hospital tell us that Pari is so fearless -- she never complains about anything.
Seeing us in so much stress, she smiles at us and tells us, ‘Look ma! Look dad! I am okay.’ I am left speechless. I have never felt so helpless before.”
Can you please help me save my daughter?
At 5, Pari has had to manage her school, take the painful treatment and watch us struggle to save every penny, to afford her transplant. Only recently, a few donors have been found as a match for my daughter and now the doctors are conducting the final tests for her bone marrow transplant. However, the 35 lakh rupees is a huge sum that we cannot afford to pay. Pari is determined to live and we are determined to keep her alive. We have no money left to pay for her ongoing transfusions but we have decided to not give up on hope. With your generous contributions, Pari can live. You can also share her story on Facebook and WhatsApp and help her reach out to more people like you.
