My little ray of sunshine, V.G Rudra was born too early, at just 32 weeks, weighing only 2 kilos. I held him in the NICU, praying he would grow stronger with each passing day. But life had something much harder planned for him.
At just 4 months old, doctors told us something was wrong. By 7 months, it was confirmed—my baby has Beta Thalassemia Major.
Since then, his life has been filled with hospital visits, needles, and blood transfusions. Recently, he had another transfusion. His haemoglobin had dropped to 7.3.
Watching my tiny baby struggle with breathlessness, fever, and weakness and even pale skin, breaks me in ways I cannot explain.
This is not a life any child deserves.
Doctors have given us hope that a bone marrow transplant could save him. But it costs us lakhs… an amount we cannot even dream of arranging.
My husband is a car driver, the only earning member of our small family. Whatever we had from our savings, even my gold, we have already spent. We are now surviving on borrowed money, just to keep Rudra alive month after month.
Every transfusion is only temporary. Without the transplant, his suffering will never end.
As a mother, I am holding onto hope with everything I have. I just want to see my son grow up healthy, to laugh, to play, to live a life free from pain.
