I never imagined my heart could carry this much fear.
My name is Prasenjit Ghosh. I am the father of one-year-old Srijan. He is my first child and the light of my life. From the moment he was born, everything in my world changed. I had dreams of teaching him how to walk, of watching him smile, of holding his hand through every little step in life. But today, instead of seeing him grow, I watch him struggle for every breath.
Srijan was different from the beginning. He struggled to breathe and seemed weaker than other babies. Doctors told us not to worry. They said he would grow stronger. But instead, he grew sicker.
In February, he was diagnosed with persistent pneumonia. Since then, our days have been filled with fear and hospital visits. On the third of March, he was admitted to the ICU. He has not left since. He is on oxygen. He cannot eat on his own and is fed through a tube. He lies quietly, barely moving. It has been more than a month since I last held him in my arms.
Doctors have told us that the infection is spreading. They fear that it may soon lead to organ failure. Hearing those words shattered something inside me. As a father, all I want is to protect my child. But now, I stand helpless as his life hangs in the balance.
We have spent everything. I work as a farmer. We borrowed money and sold what little we had just to keep going. My wife and I have traveled far from our home to stay by his side. Still, the treatment he needs is beyond what we can afford.
All we want is to bring him home. We want to see him laugh. We want to hear him call out to us. My wife has not smiled in weeks. She keeps waiting for the moment she can hold him again.
