All of us are distraught, anguished, deeply affected with near and dear ones suffering.
After we have debated what led to this, who all failed us, what could have been done, apportioned the blame, shared on Whatsapp and SM, our views, advice, our grief, Can We do something? Can we take it upon us to save a life? Can we use this, once in a century pandemic to do our bit?
With the second wave, India is in an emergency crisis- hospitals overwhelmed, Healthcare system overstretched, Supplies of medicine, oxygen facing an acute shortage. The underprivileged are extremely vulnerable, hit by triple whammy – lack of resources, lack of connections to get emergency help, lack of access in time for a hospital bed, an ICU, a ventilator, and oxygen supply.
We are the FeedMycity initiative. In 2020, with the support of 400 Volunteers, over 50,000 donors including
60 organizations – Corporates, Foundations, Trusts, and Individuals, we served 58 lakh meals for stranded Migrant workers.
Now in the new COVID wave of April 2021, we have embarked on a new and timely initiative to save lives by supplying free Oxygen Concentrators to the needy so that they can get critical life support till they find a hospital bed, get access to doctors, and recover completely. These concentrators will be provided for a 5 to 10 days’ duration as needed, will then be taken back, sanitized, reused on the next patient with a fresh set of consumables. We are benefiting from the on-the-ground presence of Portea, one of India’s leading home healthcare companies, who are well-versed with the use of concentrators and have the logistical experience and a team in place to execute this program. Portea has a presence in 16 cities.
Starting off in Bangalore and Mumbai, we plan to cover additional cities
. We are procuring oxygen concentrators in bulk in severe supply-constrained situations. Focus is on reliable brands like Philips, Oxygen, and others that pass stringent testing norms.
We need to fight this battle on all fronts – on-ground implementation by volunteers, procurement of Oxygen Concentrators in bulk, identification of the deserving patients needing free help, and raising money to support all these activities.
You can help:
1.If you know people who need emergency oxygen support, are below the poverty line, let us know. We will support
2.If you have, know oxygen concentrator sources, used or new ones, or have OC that you can spare let us know, we will buy, refurbish
3. If you want to donate, or know of CSR funds, trust those who want to contribute, please do.
4. You can start the initiative in your area, have some resources you can mobilize, can lead this wholeheartedly, let us know.
Right now, as we speak, have limited stocks in Bangalore and Mumbai ready for deployment. But will get over soon.
The top priority is sourcing. We want to buy 1000 oxygen concentrators one-shot, now. Only select, top brands.
Stay safe, we shall come out of this.
Your support and contribution will help save a life.
