It was supposed to be just another evening. But on July 31st, my uncle, Gona Venu Gopal Reddy, was fighting to stay alive…
He was seated as a pillion rider when a sudden collision occurred. In those few seconds, everything changed.
My uncle lost consciousness and suffered a severe traumatic brain injury along with multiple serious injuries. He had bleeding from his ear, a deep scalp injury, an injury around his eye, and a severe degloving injury around his left ankle and foot. He had to be intubated and immediately shifted to the ICU. His neurological exam showed severe impairment, leaving him paralysed.
It is difficult to describe what it feels like to see someone who has always been so strong for his family lying helpless in a hospital bed.
Venu uncle has spent his life carrying responsibilities that never seemed to end. He was the only earner in his family, supporting his wife, two children, mother, and mother-in-law. Even after a previous fire accident involving his vehicle took away much of his savings and disrupted his livelihood, he did not give up. He rebuilt what he could and began working as a contractor, determined to keep his family going.
But now, he cannot even be strong for them.
Our family has already spent more than ₹15 lakh on his treatment. His journey is far from over. He continues to require medical care, including a planned decompression craniotomy, K-wire fixation, glucose monitoring, ICU stay and rehabilitation.
My uncle’s wish is deeply important to him. All he wants is to return home, care for his family and provide for them. He wants to stand on his own, live without depending on others, and be the man his family can rely on.
