Every morning, the first thing I do is check if my father is breathing comfortably. Before Lung Fibrosis took over his life in 2023, my father, Veerabhadraiah, was the strongest person I knew. But now, even walking a few steps leaves him gasping for air. His continuous cough echoes through our house day and night, and watching him depend on oxygen support for every breath breaks me in ways I cannot explain. Sometimes he tries to smile and act normal for us, but I can see the exhaustion in his eyes. The man who once carried all of us on his shoulders now struggles to even stand without feeling breathless.

The doctors have told us that an urgent double lung transplant is his only chance to survive and live normally again. They warned us that delaying it could increase the risk of heart complications and lower the chances of a successful transplant.

As his daughter, it is painful to hear words like “urgent” and “life-threatening” attached to my father’s name. But despite everything, he still holds onto one simple dream, to breathe without machines, to laugh with us without coughing in between, and to spend a healthy life with his family again. More than anything, I just want to see my father sit with us peacefully one day, without tubes, without fear, and without struggling for every single breath.

ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ, ನಾನು ಮಾಡುವ ಮೊದಲ ಕೆಲಸವೆಂದರೆ ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆ ಆರಾಮವಾಗಿ ಉಸಿರಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆಯೇ ಎಂದು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸುವುದು. 2023 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ವಾಸಕೋಶದ ಫೈಬ್ರೋಸಿಸ್ ಅವರ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಆಕ್ರಮಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮೊದಲು, ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆ ವೀರಭದ್ರಯ್ಯ ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಬಲಿಷ್ಠ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ. ಆದರೆ ಈಗ, ಕೆಲವು ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಗಳು ನಡೆದರೂ ಸಹ ಅವರು ಗಾಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಉಸಿರುಗಟ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರ ನಿರಂತರ ಕೆಮ್ಮು ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಗಲು ರಾತ್ರಿ ಪ್ರತಿಧ್ವನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಅವರು ಪ್ರತಿ ಉಸಿರಾಟಕ್ಕೂ ಆಮ್ಲಜನಕದ ಬೆಂಬಲವನ್ನು ಅವಲಂಬಿಸಿರುವುದನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದು ನನಗೆ ವಿವರಿಸಲಾಗದ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಮುರಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ಅವರು ನಗುತ್ತಾ ನಮಗೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರಂತೆ ವರ್ತಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಆದರೆ ಅವರ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯಾಸವನ್ನು ನಾನು ನೋಡಬಹುದು. ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ತನ್ನ ಹೆಗಲ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊತ್ತುಕೊಂಡ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಈಗ ಉಸಿರುಗಟ್ಟದೆ ನಿಲ್ಲಲು ಸಹ ಕಷ್ಟಪಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ತುರ್ತು ಡಬಲ್ ಶ್ವಾಸಕೋಶ ಕಸಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಬದುಕುಳಿಯಲು ಮತ್ತು ಮತ್ತೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಬದುಕಲು ಇರುವ ಏಕೈಕ ಅವಕಾಶ ಎಂದು ವೈದ್ಯರು ನಮಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ವಿಳಂಬ ಮಾಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಹೃದಯದ ತೊಂದರೆಗಳ ಅಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಬಹುದು ಮತ್ತು ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಕಸಿ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಅವರು ನಮಗೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಜೀವವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿ

ಅವರ ಮಗಳಾಗಿ, ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಹೆಸರಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ "ತುರ್ತು" ಮತ್ತು "ಮಾರಣಾಂತಿಕ" ನಂತಹ ಪದಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವುದು ನೋವಿನ ಸಂಗತಿ. ಆದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲದರ ಹೊರತಾಗಿಯೂ, ಅವರು ಇನ್ನೂ ಒಂದು ಸರಳ ಕನಸನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಯಂತ್ರಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಉಸಿರಾಡುವುದು, ನಡುವೆ ಕೆಮ್ಮದೆ ನಮ್ಮೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಗುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಆರೋಗ್ಯಕರ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಕಳೆಯುವುದು. ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ, ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆ ನಮ್ಮೊಂದಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಶಾಂತಿಯುತವಾಗಿ, ಟ್ಯೂಬ್‌ಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ, ಭಯವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿ ಉಸಿರಾಟಕ್ಕೂ ಕಷ್ಟಪಡದೆ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ನಾನು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.
