My name is Kajal Mandal, and today I’m writing this with trembling hands and a heart that has forgotten what peace feels like. My baby boy, Aniket, is just 4 months old — an age when a child should be wrapped in warm cuddles, soft smiles, and peaceful sleep. But instead, he is fighting battles no child should ever have to face.

What started as a simple cold quickly turned into a nightmare. Aniket began struggling to breathe, his tiny chest moving up and down with so much difficulty that I could feel the fear rising inside me. We rushed him to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi, hoping it would be something small. But life had other plans.

The doctors examined him, and the words they spoke left us shattered.

Aniket is suffering from severe Viral Pneumonia (RSV+/Parainfluenza), Congenital Heart Disease with a Large Ventricular Septal Defect, and Elizabethkingia Anopheles Pneumonia — a rare and dangerous infection. Each condition alone is frightening… together, they have pushed our little boy into a critical state.

I stand beside his bed every day, watching machines breathe for him, watching tubes carrying medicines that are keeping him alive, and watching my baby struggle in ways no mother should ever witness. Every tiny movement he makes feels like a miracle, and every silent moment feels like a warning. I keep talking to him softly, telling him, “Maa is here… just fight a little more,” even though my own strength feels like it is breaking.

We have poured every rupee we had into his treatment. All our savings… gone. Loans from relatives… gone. Still, the hospital bills keep rising. The doctors have told us that the total estimated cost will be around ₹15 lakhs — an amount that is impossible for us to arrange on our own, no matter how hard we try.
