We are Kaushik Kumar Neog and Dr Adrija Deka, and we are reaching out to you from a place of absolute desperation and flickering hope. Our 8-year-old son, Bhrij Kaushik, is currently suspended between life and death at Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Hyderabad. What began as a case of Influenza A pneumonia rapidly spiralled into Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), causing his little lungs to fail. When ventilators were no longer enough to keep him alive, we had to make the harrowing decision to transport him via air ambulance from Guwahati to Hyderabad for ECMO—the highest form of life support available. Watching your child being flown across the country in a race against time is a trauma no parent should ever endure.
Right now, an ECMO machine is doing the work that Bhrij’s lungs can no longer do, providing him the precious time his body needs to heal. He is in critical condition, fighting with every ounce of his 8-year-old strength. However, the cost of maintaining a child on ECMO, coupled with the intensive care, specialised medications, and the enormous expense of the air ambulance, has reached a staggering ₹50,00,000. As parents, we want nothing more than to focus entirely on our son’s recovery, but the crushing weight of this financial burden is a constant, suffocating shadow. We are a family pushed to our absolute limit, and we simply cannot afford this life-saving intervention alone.
