3 y/o Dihanraj has a habit that drives his mother crazy. He never sits still. One minute he is chasing a ball across the room. The next, he is climbing onto the sofa or running after his father the moment he returns home from work. His laughter usually echoes through every corner of their small house.

Today, the house is quiet.

His toys lie untouched. His parents spend their days not listening to his footsteps, but listening to the sounds of monitors inside a hospital room.

Just weeks ago, Dihanraj developed a fever. Like most parents, Shyam and Piyali believed it was something simple.

"It was only a fever in the beginning. We never imagined our son would end up fighting for his life," his father says. But the fever refused to leave. Breathing became difficult. Every cough echoed the house. Every hour seemed worse than the one before.

The family rushed him to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with severe pneumonia. Suddenly, everything changed. The little boy who once ran around the house could barely breathe.

On 15 April 2026, doctors had to perform a microsurgery. Soon after, they discovered fluid had accumulated around his lungs, and his left lung had collapsed. The fluid had to be drained to help him breathe properly.

For Dihanraj's parents, every procedure felt like watching a storm pass through their child's tiny body.

"My son is only three 3 years old. He doesn't understand why he is in pain. He just looks at us and expects us to make everything better," says his mother. "That is what breaks my heart."

Doctors at Desun Hospital & Heart Institute in Kolkata have advised continued treatment, including PICU care and hospitalization to ensure Dihanraj recovers completely.

But while their son fights severe pneumonia, his father is fighting a different battle. A battle against numbers. Medical bills. And time.

Shyam used to work at a garment shop and earned barely ₹10,000 a month. It was enough to keep food on the table, but nowhere near enough to handle a medical emergency of this scale. Now that his son is hospitalized, Shyam has stopped going to work.

"There are moments when I look at my son and feel helpless," his father says. "The doctors know how to save him. I just don't know how to pay for it."

Every parent wishes for the same thing: for their child to grow up healthy, happy, and safe. Today, Dihanraj's parents are asking for something much smaller. One chance. One chance for their little boy to leave the hospital, return to his toys, and fill their home with laughter again.

Your support can help make that happen. Please donate and help Dihanraj get the treatment he urgently needs.

This campaign for a single patient can be converted into a multi-patient campaign, subject to the performance of this campaign. Once the funding requirement of a specific patient is met, multiple other beneficiaries can be helped through Impact Guru.
