For most parents, the birth of a first child is a moment of pure joy. But for Kalka Bhagawan Jagdale, a farmer from Nanded, Maharashtra, that joy has been replaced by endless nights of fear and despair. After two years of marriage, Kalka and his wife were finally blessed with a baby boy on 8th August 2025. Born through C-section, the little one weighed just 2.14 kg, far below the healthy weight for a newborn.
Their happiness was short-lived. Within days, the baby developed serious complications. Doctors diagnosed him with Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) and neonatal seizures. His tiny body could not cope, and on 5th September, at just four weeks old, he had to undergo a major intestinal surgery. Since then, he has been fighting for his life in the NICU at Rainbow Hospital.
Today at Rainbow Children’s Hospital, the baby weighs only 1.5 kg and survives with the help of oxygen support. His condition is so fragile that doctors have advised at least 2–3 more weeks of NICU care before he can be considered stable. Every day in the NICU is critical, and every day brings new expenses that the family cannot bear.
As if this ordeal were not enough, the baby’s mother is also unwell. She is unable to look after her newborn and herself at the same time, leaving the father to shoulder the unbearable burden alone. Kalka works hard on his farm and earns about 2.5 lakhs a year, but this is nowhere near enough to cover the mounting hospital bills. With no income certificate attached, he cannot even seek government support.
This is the couple’s first child — their long-awaited blessing. But instead of holding their son close, they must watch him struggle for every breath, surrounded by machines and tubes. Kalka prays not just for his baby’s survival, but also for his wife’s recovery. He dreams of the day when both mother and child return home healthy and safe.
Your support can make that dream come true. By contributing, you can help this newborn survive, ease the family’s financial burden, and give hope to parents who are living their worst nightmare.
