The first time Ankit coughed blood, his mother could not believe it. The family rushed from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal to the St John’s Hospital, Bangalore, with fear they had never felt before. Fifteen days later, they are still fighting to save their son.

Ankit lies on the hospital bed and eats only liquids. He had one chemotherapy session and has already needed three blood transfusions. Sometimes he speaks in short sentences; sometimes he sleeps a lot. When he smiles, his parents’ faces relax for a moment. The doctors say he needs more chemotherapy and more tests.

His father works as a construction labourer and earns only Rs 500 a day. He comes to the hospital with rough, tired hands. Ankit’s mother is a housewife and stays at his side most of the day.

His sister is 17 y/o and studying in 12th standard, trying to keep up with her studies while worrying about her brother. Ankit studied in 7th standard; school is paused while he is sick.

Money is the family’s constant worry. The father spends what he can on medicines, tests, and food. Sometimes neighbors help with small amounts. Sometimes the family borrows. They stay near the hospital in a small rented room when they can, but many days the parents sleep on a bench or in the hospital waiting area because they must be close to Ankit.

Ankit’s mother combs his hair and prays quietly. The father counts the small bills he has left and thinks of work tomorrow. They speak little, because fear takes many words.

This is a family from Jalpaiguri fighting a sudden, harsh illness. They do not ask for grand promises. They need steady help: money for chemotherapy, support for daily needs, and someone to stand with them through the long treatment ahead. For now, they hold on to each other, day by day, hoping the next treatment brings better news.

This campaign for a single patient can be converted into a multi-patient campaign, subject to the performance of this campaign. Once the funding requirement of a specific patient is met, multiple other beneficiaries can be helped through Impact Guru.

Should I wait for an organ donor before starting a fundraiser?

You need not wait for donor or have the organ ready. We actually suggest you start a fundraiser as soon as you can so that you are ready with the acquired funds and can get the surgery done immediately when you do receive an organ.

How can I track the impact of my donation?

Generally, most campaigners are reminded to leave updates on their fundraiser regarding the progress of their cause, whether it’s a nonprofit project or the health of a patient. You will get an email every time an update is posted. Alternately, you can use the "Contact campaigner" option on the fundraiser page to directly get in touch with the campaigner and understand how your donation benefited them.

Once the requirement of this patient will be met, any remaining funds will ultimately go towards helping other needy patients in line with Impact Guru's mission of helping save as many lives as possible.

Whose account will the funds be transferred to?

For all medical fundraisers, the funds will be directly transferred to the hospital’s account. Only in a few cases, based on Impact Guru’s discretion, the funds might be transferred to the campaigner or the patient’s account for postoperative or at home expenses.

In cases, where the funding requirement of the patient changes due to factors such as death, change of treatment plan on advice of hospital, delay in treatment, medical complications, Impact Guru utilizes the funds to help similar patients with the mission of helping save as many lives as possible.

90%+ of Impact Guru’s campaigns raise funds leveraging our do-it-yourself fundraising platform.

The Accelerate initiative of Impact Guru caters primarily towards those individuals who are unable to create or manage their own fundraiser due to lack of education, access to smartphones, or social networks for fundraising support.
