Abhijit Chakraborty was on his evening walk on 17 May when a drunk biker hit him from behind. He never saw it coming.
The impact shattered his skull, face, nose, and teeth. Passersby rushed him to the hospital, where doctors operated on his brain the very next day. It should have been the worst of it. It wasn't.

Days later, a brain infection set in. Abhijit needed a second surgery on 4 June. He has not opened his eyes since.
He is 39. A service engineer. The only earning member in a family of three, his wife Debolina, and their 8-year-old daughter, who is too young to understand why her father hasn't come home. He used to earn ₹1 lakh a month. That income has stopped completely.

Debolina now spends her days at his bedside in the ICU, watching monitors, waiting for a flicker of consciousness that hasn't come yet. Doctors say he needs at least four more weeks of hospitalization, and more surgeries once his condition stabilizes enough to withstand them.
The family has already spent lakhs from insurance, the rest from whatever savings they had. There is little left. They applied for government relief funds. No response yet.

What stands between Abhijit and a chance at recovery is the huge treatment cost.
There was no warning for this. No time to prepare, financially or otherwise. One evening he went for a walk. The next morning, his family was signing consent forms for brain surgery.

Debolina hasn't left the hospital corridor for more than a few hours at a stretch. She holds onto the same hope every day, that her husband opens his eyes, that he comes home, that their daughter gets her father back.
The treatment exists. The doctors are ready. What's missing is the money to get him through the next stage.

If you can contribute, this is where it goes, toward keeping Abhijit alive long enough to heal, and giving a father the chance to walk his daughter to school again.
