Support Defence Officer Sanjeev Kumar's Battle Against Cancer
This is a heartfelt appeal from me, Kavita Jaswal, wife of a defence officer who is fighting the toughest battle of his life with extraordinary courage and unwavering determination.
My husband has had the honour of serving our nation in some of the world's most challenging environments—from the highest battlefield in the world, to intense Counter-Insurgency/Counter-Terrorism Operations in Kashmir and the North East.
In July last year, while serving in Ladakh, he was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer.
Since then, he has undergone a major gastrojejunostomy to bypass intestinal obstruction, followed by 17 cycles of chemotherapy and CyberKnife radiotherapy. Sadly, the tumour was inoperable from the beginning because it was wrapped around major blood vessels.
Through every setback, hope and determination have kept us going. But the disease has taken a devastating physical toll. A once exceptionally fit officer has lost nearly 30 kilograms in just a few months.
His latest PET scan has shown disease progression, with an increase in the size of the pancreatic tumour and metastasis.
After exhausting all established treatment options available in India, one final ray of hope remains—a promising targeted therapy, Daraxonrasib, available in the United States. While the treatment itself offers hope, the enormous costs of travel, medical evaluation, investigations, scans, hospitalization, monitoring, Support, logistics and future import of the drug are far beyond what our family can afford. His organisation has extended every possible support within its scope, but this treatment lies beyond those provisions.
Every contribution, no matter the amount, can make a real difference.
To many, he is a colleague, a friend, and a soldier. To me and our two sons, he is our entire world.
This treatment offers him hope—a chance to continue fighting this devastating illness, spend more precious time with his family, and continue serving the nation he has protected with relentless courage and selfless service.
