Joy of Giving Week - Schools and Colleges

Joy of Giving Week is India’s very own ‘Festival of Giving’ that happens from October 2 to 8. It aims at spreading joy and happiness among those who need help and support, and for each of us to experience the joy in giving. Everybody, including schools and colleges, participate in social activities such as making donations, organizing events, or volunteering.

We will be giving a shout-out to schools and colleges initiatives undertaken during this week, to support nonprofits and social causes.

Thadomal Shahani Centre For Management
Thadomal Shahani Centre for Management (TSCFM) received our team for a workshop to create awareness about using crowdfunding as a great tool for community service and drive social change. Next week onwards, through Youth Social Responsibility Fundraising Challenge students at TSCFM will participate in a unique competition to support and enable nonprofits. Through the month-long fundraising competition, students will compete in teams of 2 to raise funds for select nonprofits on our platform. The challenge is designed in such a way that it incorporates components of technology, communication and entrepreneurship to create a holistic learning experience for students.

ISB

ISB – Shadow a CEO
Current post-graduate students of ISB participate in an online auction during Daan Utsav for an opportunity to spend an entire day with a CEO of their choice. The CEO then contributes an equal amount, if not more and the collective corpus goes to a charity of the CEO’s choice.

Pawar Public School

Pawar Public School
During the Joy of Giving Week, variety of stationery items and essential food grains will be collected during this week from the students as well as the teachers and will be donated to two well-known organisations - Vanvasi Kalyan Ashrama that works for the uplift of tribal children and Janani Ashish Charitable Trust - an orphanage in Dombivali.

This year, Euro Kids’ 39 centres in the country will be collecting toys, books and stationery. These articles will further be donated to local charitable organization.

SAI International has been actively involved during the Joy of Giving Week and the students had undertaken drives like the Joy of Toys where they distributed toys in Jeevan Jyoti Ashram, Joy of Books where they donated books in Bakul Library, Joy of Clean & Green Bhubaneswar where the students had a cleanliness drive at Barmunda Bus stop and Joy of Green where 1000 neem saplings were distributed at the Secretariat.

This year they are working towards the Eco Schools Program in which the activities taken up are as follows: healthy Living related to healthy diet and cleanliness, bio diversity related to reading and learning more about the flora and fauna, Waste Management related to reading, recycling and composting. Therefore they have chosen to begin the donation drive of books, pulses, energy drinks, oats, cloth or jute bags, saplings and seeds of various plants.
The above items be donated to needy organizations and societies which work towards creating a healthy and green environment.

Genius Kids

Durga Puja and DIWALI is a time for new clothes but there are many children who have never worn anything new. As part of this initiative of Genius Kids in association with Sai Shikha Charitable Trust, each pupil may voluntarily donate new clothes for the age group 04-14 years, for distribution among the less privileged.

IIMB
”One Day @ IIMB “ is a unique event where in IIMB opens up its gates for the entire community. All one needs to do is to bid for a seat to spend a day at IIMB. Top 80 bidders get a chance to experience the student life at IIMB which includes, sessions by eminent professors, alumnus, case presentation, interactive session with IIMB students, cultural events etc. To top it all, the proceeds go to U&I- an NGO working for the betterment of marginalized women and Samiksha foundation- a creative learning center for children with cancer.

To celebrate Daan Utsav Week the students and teachers participated in a number of volunteer activities and charity events. They participated in ‘Make a Wish’, planted trees, visited CHORD (a voluntary organisation for the rehabilitation of children) and an old age home, sponsored meals, donated school bags with notebooks and stationary, raised funds with a ‘Donate a Rupee’ fundraiser and sold handmade sandwiches apart from extending their support to the ayahs, drivers and conductors.

The activity Initiated by NSS Volunteers at T. John College, prompted the students of the college to participate in the event with a great enthusiasm. Principal Dr.Shikha Tiwari , Vice principal Dr. Nilanjana Basu and NSS Unit incharge Mr. Arun Kumar R, were the motivators for huge collection of Funds and Clothing from students and staff of all the departments. Blood Donation Camp was organized on 1st Oct 2015 where students of T John College donated 150 units of blood, volunteer partners Lions Blood Bank and NMHANS Blood Bank, Bangalore.

The Little Kingdom schools participated in The Daan Utsav, where students of the schools donated stationery items. The contribution was divided and donated to Sri Padmanaban Memorial School, Allinagram and Meenakshi Memorial Primary School.

IIM Trichy
IIM Trichy kick started Daan Utsav celebrations in the campus with the initial event ‘Shram Daan’, a campus clean-up program on October 2nd commemorating the first anniversary of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. Students actively participated in Shram Daan contributing effort and time to clean the places around the campus.

DaanUtsav titled as the Joy of Giving Week, celebrations concluded with a donation and wish tree activity at Dikshant International School, Zirakpur. Dikshant International School, Zirakpur, organized numerous activities during the celebration which included Piggy Bank/Donation Box, Wish Tree etc.

Pune’s University Women’s Association
Shabnam Poonawalla – Pune’s University Women’s Association (UWA) President said, “We are proud to be a part of the DaanUtsav. We have planned a blood donation camp at our working women’s hostel hall on 2nd October from 9.00am till 5.00pm with an aim to bring together our neighbourhood and celebrate the joy of giving. This will be donated to Sassoon Hospital’s Thalassemia patients."

That day they attended the “Daan Utsav” events and witnessed the “Rugby Match “and “Wish Tree” with the Hope Foundation children. They handed over the Football kits which were donated by their students to the Hope children thus participating in the charity initiative. They also were shown ACM (art, craft and music) classes like Vocal, Sitar, Synthesizer, Tabla, Craft and finally, Art which left them very impressed with our school. They attended the various Clubs like Drama, Quiz, Nature and Chess too which gave them insight in the other activities of our school. Christine conducted the Life Skill classes and shared a presentation on “Easter” thus bringing out the similarities between U.K. and Indian festivals.

To mark the joyous occasion of 'Joy Of Giving' week/ Daan Utsav, Institute of Engineering and Management; MBA/PGDM students and faculty members organized a fundraiser for the cause of education. They set up a wish tree for the students of Hope Foundation Kolkata.

On 19.10.2015 they celebrate Anandha vidhayalaya Matric Higher secondary School is one of the famous schools in Rajapalayam. On that day the school principal gave speech about joy of giving on Morning Prayer. He explained about school activities, joy of giving, the I-give page, about voluntary service, donation opcinon and corpus funding program.

Little Millennium Pre Schools at Roop Nagar and Gandhi Nagar celebrated “Joy of Giving” Week. During the week special assembly sessions were held for sensitizing the little ones to the importance of contributions in the society especially towards the weaker and under privileged sections. On the concluding day, in which the parents of the little angels contributed generously, the school representatives visited the Bal Ashram at Ved Mandir Amphalla and distributed usable commodities like notebooks, pencils, biscuits, shampoo, soap, toys and clothes to the underprivileged children. A cheque of Rs 2,100 was also presented by the school management to the Bal Ashram.
