Cyclone Vardah, has slammed into India’s South-East coast, toppling vehicles and damaging houses, and the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have again, come to a dangerous standstill. More than 16,000 people have been evacuated to safety but the wrath of nature in the form of a landfall, has claimed 10 lives already. A big loss to Chennai is the loss of its precious green cover. Thousands of trees have fallen down in the city. It's important to help restore the green cover to avoid further damage to the city's ecology.
About the NGO:
Nizhal is a 11 year old Not for Profit organisation that works for tree conservation in urban areas. They work with communities at the grass root level to restore indigenous tree biodiversity and towards a culture of sensitive greening. Their landmark initiatives are Community Parks across Chennai, and the Green Prisons Program that has facilitated model gated green communities across prisons in Tamil Nadu - where they raise organic vegetables.
The Fundraising Campaign: Funds raised through the campaign would be used to restore the green cover in Chennai by planting trees across the city.
