Her notebooks lay in the corner, abandoned and accumulating dust. She would have never let her prized school bag and books be neglected. The last homework she completed before she got hospitalized stares at our face as we routinely walk past her bed. She often spent long evenings sitting by the window burying her tiny face deep into her books.
Getting a call from Vishaka’s school turned into our worst nightmare. As soon as we rushed to school, we discovered her lying down looking pale and extremely sick. Seeing her that way brought memories back, just a few years ago dengue had plagued her. We remember admitting her to the hospital and the memories were still afresh, episodes of her suffering and struggle kept coming back.
The doctor had told us that her lungs and kidney have gotten weak as a result of her dengue. That made me realize that we could not waste any time in admitting her to the hospital this time, as her physical health was already not in a good condition.
It has been 12 days since she got admitted and she has been diagnosed with multiple organ failure.
Her symptoms have gotten worse. She keeps vomiting blood and has constant fever. Her bloodshot eyes keep staring at me as physical energy leaves her bit by bit.
Her kidney, liver and lungs have already given up. Due to her dire medical condition, she has been kept on ventilator since day 1. We have already borrowed a sum of Rs 5,00,000 to try and cope up with the medical expenses incurred.
I bring home a measly sum of Rs 7,000 working as an agent in a RTO office, our family is struggling to gather the required funds amounting to Rs 7,00,000. Her brother is adamant in bringing her back home and the poor little thing can’t even process the information that his sister is hospitalized. Our entire home feels empty and we keep gazing at her bed longingly, hoping that she’d come back one day and everything will return back to normal.
I feel trapped and the future looks uncertain for our ten year old Vishaka at this very moment. Our family has turned to crowdfunding as their last resort, in the hope that it will help us give their daughter a second chance at life.
You can help them afford the treatment in time by contributing to their fundraiser here.
